Gotham Crumbles in the First 'The Dark Knight Rises' Teaser Poster

Since right around the time The Dark Knight appeared in theaters to near-universal acclaim in the summer of 2008, a zealous audience rabid for more Batman has let fly with enthusiastic speculation.  With the final sequel in Christopher Nolan's bat-trilogy in production and a release date just about a year away, Warner Bros is starting up the marketing machine for The Dark Knight Rises.  The first teaser trailer will be attached to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, finally hitting screens this Friday.  Tonight, though, we have our first look at the official teaser poster, which shows Gotham City coming apart violently as debris and skyscrapers form a familiar shape.

The poster debuted at the Bat-finale's official site

It's definitely in keeping with the overall style of promotional materials established with Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, while also incorporating a bit of an Inception vibe, recalling the warped and often crumbling cityscapes of that film's promotional imagery.

Even at more than a year out from release, you know the basics.  Nolan directing, closing out a story with a definite point of closure.  Screenplay by Jonathan Nolan from a story by Christopher Nolan and David Goyer, who also wrote the new Superman reboot Man of SteelChristian Bale is donning the cape and cowl once again, with Anne Hathaway stepping into Catwoman's boots.  Tom Hardy also joins the party as Bane, while Gary Oldman, Michael Caine, and Morgan Freeman reprise the roles they've played since Batman BeginsMarion Cotillard, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Juno Temple, and Josh Pence are also set to appear.

The Dark Knight Rises is scheduled for July 20, 2012.
