Official 'The Amazing Spider-Man' Teaser Trailer

It was generally assumed that the first teaser trailer for Sony's Spidey reboot The Amazing Spider-Man would debut at San Diego Comic-Con this week, but yesterday a low-quality bootleg of said teaser made its way online, to be widely and enthusiastically disseminated by fans eager for a glimpse at Marc Webb's take on Peter Parker's superheroic origin.  Perhaps it's no coincidence, then, that today sees the release of a pristine, official version of that teaser, introducing us to Andrew Garfield as Peter, Emma Stone as an apparently scientifically-inclined Gwen Stacy, and (briefly) Rhys Ifans as Dr. Curt Connors. The tone is somber, daddy issues are ample, and the whole thing finishes off with an extended P.O.V. of both wall-crawling and web-slinging.

To further cleanse your palette after that bootleg, click over to Yahoo! Movies and peep the trailer in HD.

"Secret-secrets are no fun, secret-secrets hurt someone."

It could just be the trailer, but the whole endeavor looks very much inspired by Batman Begins, with, oddly enough, a hint of Ang Lee's take on Hulk.  It's certainly a far cry from the colorful, considerably more old-fashioned take on Spidey provided by Sam Raimi.  While the teaser plays it all pretty grim, I'm holding out hope that once Garfield's in the suit, his webhead will have that scrappy sense of humor that wasn't fully on display with Tobey Maguire's take on the character.

While our first look at the film is focused very much on Andrew Garfield as Peter and secondarily on Emma Stone as Gwen, the supporting cast are also on hand.  There's Aunt May (Sally Field), Uncle Ben (Martin Sheen), Captain Stacy (Denis Leary), and Peter's parents, Richard Parker (Campbell Scott) and Mary Parker (Embeth Davidtz).  It seems we even hear a bit of voiceover from Irrfan Khan as Nels Van Adder.

The Amazing Spider-Man hits theaters in 3D on July 3, 2012.
