Two More Images From 'The Hunger Games'

For months, anticipation for The Hunger Games was maintained with a seemingly interminable stream of casting announcements. On a minute-by-minute basis, town criers the world over heralded even the most minor addition to the cast, shouting with no small amount of puffery, "Hear ye, hear ye, Annie Thurman will be play District 9 Tribute Girl!" With the adaptation of Suzanne Collins' bestselling young adult novel fully cast and in production, though, these announcements have been replaced by occasional images of the young cast in wooded environs basically doing nothing. As your digital town crier, I do declare, "Look ye upon two new images from The Hunger Games; one of loveliest Jennifer Lawrence looking concerned and one of Josh Hutcherson lounging about in the out-of-doors!"

Both images made their debut on The Hunger Games facebook page.

Pretty much every still released from the film has focused on Lawrence and Hutcherson as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the two youngsters forced to participate in the eponymous survival games for their home polity, District 12. Recently, though, images of Liam Hemsworth as Gale Hawthorne entered the mix, giving a proper look at the three principal characters and love-triangle corners.

Right now, the production is hauling ass in South Carolina under the direction of Gary Ross, whose directorial resume consists of two classy, sincere movies starring Tobey Maguire: Pleasantville and Seabiscuit. Ross apparently fought hard to have Hutcherson play Peeta, the second lead in what will almost surely by a trilogy adapting Collins' novels. Also on hand in the cast are Elizabeth Banks, Wes Bentley, Woody Harrelson, Stanley Tucci, Lenny Kravitz, Toby Jones, and Donald Sutherland.

When The Hunger Games hits theaters on March 23, 2012, we'll finally be out of pictures to post.
