New 'The Avengers' Set Photos Show Chris Evans in Full Cap Costume

Yesterday brought set photos and video of Cleveland being rocked by pyrotechnics and a large scale crowd scene, as the fair city is doubling for New York in The Avengers.  Also included were a few looks at Chris Evans as Steve Rogers, sporting an old-school leather jacket that conveniently reminded us of Steve's WWII-era origins.  Today, new images from the Cleveland set provide our best look yet at Evans not in a classically-styled civilian outfit, but in the thoroughly modernized Captain America costume featured in Marvel Studios' big team-up.

Gone are the bulky straps and 1940's canvas trappings, with a more immediately superheroic and sleek getup in their place.  The new costume has been seen in concept art, glimpsed in the teaser trailer, and poured over on the Comic-Con floor, but this is the first head-to-toe look at Evans actually wearing the damn thing.

All these shiny images are here for your enjoyment and judgment courtesy of Celebrity-Gossip.net.

Captain America isn't the only one whose costume is getting tweaked for The Avengers, though the character spending seventy years on ice certainly makes his new togs the most drastically different.  The Iron Man armor worn by Robert Downey Jr. will no doubt feature some technical modifications, while Chris Hemsworth's biceps look to be more prominent in a sleeveless Thor outfit, and when Mark Ruffalo mutates into the Hulk, it'll be the first time an actor's features have been extensively incorporated into the green beast.

Production on The Avengers continues unabated under the director of Joss Whedon in Cleveland, after which it'll head to New York, all in order to meet a May 4, 2012 release date.  The summer of 2012, in case you haven't noticed, is going to be a big one for top-level superheroes, with The Avengers, The Dark Knight Rises, and The Amazing Spider-Man all hitting theaters.
