Cage & Kidman Taken Hostage in the First 'Trespass' Trailer

When a trailer starts off by introducing an impossibly well-adjusted family in their impossible perfect and secure home, you know immediately that something horrible is going to befall the family, probably within the confines of their oh-so photogenic house.  Such is the case in the first trailer for Trespass, a thriller starring Nicolas Cage, Nicole Kidman, and Liana Liberato as that apparently perfect family.  Horror arrives right on schedule in the form of a home invasion, with two masked dude played by Ben Mendelsohn and Cam Gigandet (and possibly Dash Mihok, too) intent on getting Cage to open a very secure safe on the premises.  Of course, the situation deteriorates from there.

To view Kidman's pretty hair and Cage's nerd-glasses in high definition, head over to Yahoo! Movies.

Here's the official synopsis for Trespass:

In a private, wealthy community, priority is placed on security and no exception is made for the Miller family’s estate. Behind their pristine walls and manicured gardens, Kyle, a fast-talking businessman, has entrusted the mansion’s renovation to his stunning wife, Sarah. But between making those big decisions and keeping tabs on their defiant teenage daughter, Sarah often finds herself distracted by a young, handsome worker at their home. Nothing is what it seems, and it will take a group of cold-blooded criminals led by Elias, who have been planning a vicious home invasion for months, to bring the Miller family together. When they storm the manor, everyone is tangled up in betrayal, deception, temptation and scheming. Kyle, Sarah and Avery will take the ultimate risk to make it out with their lives — and their family — intact.

The trailer naturally describes Joel Schumacher as the director behind Phone Booth and Falling Down, but the man has had an absolutely fascinating career.  He started off in features with the ridiculous Mr. T picture D.C. Cab and moved on to Brat Pack fare with St. Elmo's Fire and Flatliners, before twice adapting John Grisham with The Client and A Time to Kill.  Of course, he'll probably never escape being most associated with the be-nippled batsuits and high camp of Batman Forever and Batman & Robin.  He's gone gritty with the likes of Tigerland, and also gone big and gaudy with The Phantom of the Opera.  Say what you will about Schumacher, but he refuses to be pigeonholed.

For Trespass, he reunites with his 8 MM star Cage, and the resulting film will be in theaters and available via VOD on October 14th.
