Alliterative Casting: Marisa Miller and Mike O'Malley Join 'R.I.P.D.'

Last week brought the news that everybody's favorite television drug-dealing mom Mary-Louise Parker is in talks to join the cast of R.I.P.D., the supernatural action comedy twist on the buddy-cop formula starring Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges as cops who patrol the afterlife.  Should her deal come through, she'll join Kevin Bacon and Stephanie Szocstak.  Now, in a triumph of alliteration, supermodel Marisa Miller and comedic actor Mike O'Malley are the latest additions to an already-eclectic cast.

The film follows Reynolds as Nick, a recently-deceased cop who finds himself in the Rest in Peace Department.  With the help of his partner, a long-dead western gunslinger played by Bridges, Nick sets out to find his killer and protect his family, who still reside in the realm of the quick.  Parker plays their exposition-spouting boss at the R.I.PD. and Bacon plays the villain, while Szocstak will portray Nick's wife.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Miller will play the earthly vessel for the spirit of Bridges' character, meaning hilarity will no doubt be wrought from the sight of an unbelievably gorgeous woman acting like a gruff cop.  A longtime Victoria's Secret Angel, Miller is one of the most famous supermodels around, having appeared in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue every year from 2002-2008.  R.I.P.D. is her feature debut, but she has previously appeared on How I Met Your Mother, Gary Unmarried, and Entourage.

Meanwhile, Deadline reports that Mike O'Malley is set to show up as a character named Elliott, described simply as, "a kind of ghost."  Currently serving as a writer on the Showtime series Shameless, O'Malley is most widely known for his television work, having starred on the sitcom Yes, Dear, and making appearances on Glee, My Name is Earl, and My Own Worst Enemy.  Always sporting a baseball cap, the avid sports fan is also known to many as the ESPN commercial personality "The Rick" and fan children of the 1990's, he's fondly remembered as the host of the Nickelodeon show Global Guts.  He'll be shooting his scenes as Elliott next week.

R.I.P.D. is directed by Robert Schwentke, who last helmed the action-comedy Red, having previously directed The Time Traveler's Wife and FlightplanThe film is based on the Dark Horse comic book by Peter M. Lenkov, which was adapted into a screenplay Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi.

Universal has R.I.P.D. for a June 28, 2013 release.
