'The Avengers' Assemble in A New Promotional Image

Over the last few weeks, we've seen plenty of material related to The Avengers make its way online.  There was the new footage shown for the crowd at Disney's D23 Expo, and no shortage of unofficial photos and videos from the Ohio set, where the fair city of Cleveland has been doubling for New York.  Today, we have something a little different in the form of a promotional image depicting the whole illustrated superhero team properly assembled under the leadership of an equally-illustrated Chris Evans as Captain America.

The image comes from BleedingCool, and will apparently grace the cover of comic collection titled The Road to The Avengers, which will include Marvel Studios movie continuity stories I Am Iron Man, Iron Man Security Measures, Iron Man 2: Public Identity, Iron Man 2: Agents Of SHIELD and Captain America: First Vengeance.  Their report also includes several other collections intended to both capitalize on and build awareness of The Avengers.

The group appears to be posted up on the exterior of the SHIELD helicarrier, judging by all the clouds and whatnot.  We've seen plenty of Captain America's new outfit, but based on this image, it looks like Tony Stark's Iron Man armor might get a little style upgrade as well, with some more gold on his chest and steely femur-guards.

From left to right, you're looking at Scarlett Johansson Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), the Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner).

Production on the film is nearing the home stretch under writer-director Joss Whedon, finishing up its time in Cleveland soon before wrapping up completely in New York.

The Avengers throw down theatrically on May 4, 2012.
