Sneak Peek at the Marvel One-Shot 'A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor's Hammer'

Thor arrives on Blu-ray and DVD today, and it's accompanied by The Consultant, the first short film in the Marvel One-Shot series.  These shorts star Clark Gregg in his recurring role as SHIELD Agent Coulson and serve to more extensively interconnect the cinematic Marvel Studios universe that began in Iron Man and sees its fullest expression in next summer's The Avengers.  Now, a sneak peak at the next Marvel One-Shot, titled A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor's Hammer, has debuted online, it promises that Coulson will have significantly more to do in the next short, which will be a bonus feature on the upcoming Captain America: The First Avenger Blu-ray and DVD release.

The Consultant briefly leaked online two weeks ago, and the general perception seems to be that not enough happened.  Excepting clips from The Incredible Hulk, the short consists of Coulson and Agent Sitwell* (Maximiliano Hernandez) talking over coffee.  While Swingers-meets-SHIELD works just fine for me, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor's Hammer has a whole lot more movement, as well as an improbably attractive gas station cashier and Coulson puzzling over the choice between powdered and frosted donettes.

David Myrnick, the cinematographer who shot A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor's Hammer, posted the video to his Vimeo account, and it also made a splash at Hollywood.com.

This short serves as a bridge between Coulson's exit from Iron Man 2 and his appearance in the Land of Enchantment in that film's post-credits scene, which presaged his significant role in Thor earlier this summer.

Clark Gregg first appeared as Coulson in Iron Man, and has since missed out only on The Incredible Hulk and Captain America: The First Avenger.  He'll apparently have plenty to do in Joss Whedon's The Avengers, the mega-ensemble crossover that just recently wrapped production in New York and is set for release on May 4, 2012, when Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye, Black Widow, and the Hulk will thrown down together.

Captain America: The First Avenger, meanwhile, hits shelves on October 25th, at which point you'll be able to enjoy A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor's Hammer in its entirety.

*I get it.  He sits well.
