Check Out a Bevy of Beautiful 'The Adventures of Tintin' Images

Throughout the process of adapting Belgian creator Herge's globally-beloved characters to the big screen with The Adventures of Tintin, director Steven Spielberg has explained that his first foray into the world of motion capture animation is meant to capture the distinctive look of Tintin and the gang, while also creating lifelike, detailed textures and lighting.  A gaggle of new images from the 3D franchise-starter suggest that he, producer Peter Jackson, and the wizards at Weta Digital may very well have done just that, as Tintin, Captain Haddock, the Thompson Twins, and Snowy the Dog all look like hyper-detailed versions of their simple cartoon selves.

I guess that shouldn't be terribly surprising, since we're talking about a collaboration between Spielberg, Jackson, and the visual effects company behind The Lord of the Rings, Avatar, and Rise of the Planet of the Apes.  The footage shown in 3D at Comic-Con back in July suggested that The Adventures of Tintin will look this good in motion, as well.

Bleeding Cool pointed the way to these images, which debuted at Falcon.  Head over there to find a whole lot more.

The cast, who spent a whole lot of time goofy motion-capture suits, includes Jamie Bell, Andy Serkis, Daniel Craig, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Cary Elwes, Mackenzie Crook, and Toby Jones.  Not that you'll see any of their faces, but you'll still be seeing their performances.  The screenplay is written by British dream-team Edgar Wright, Steven Moffat, and Joe Cornish, who are respectively known for Shaun of the Dead, Sherlock, and Attack the Block, amongst others.  If this first film proves successful, then Spielberg and Jackson will swap roles for the sequel, with Jackson directing and Spielberg producing.

The Adventures of Tintin arrives Stateside on December 23rd.
