First look at Penelope Cruz in 'Pirates 4'

While it isn't very much, it'll do nicely for those of you in need of a Captain Jack Sparrow fix: the first images of Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz filming Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides have popped up online. While Depp in the costume is pretty much old hat at this point, seeing Cruz in similar pirate garb is a treat, as the Oscar-winner looks for all the world like Sparrow's female counterpart. (And let's face it, having Cruz in the flick is a welcome breath of fresh air compared to stuffy old Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom.)

Production on the Rob Marshall film is underway in Oahu, Hawaii at the moment, with a plan to move to Los Angeles in mid-August and then the U.K. to wrap up. It has a tight schedule, obviously, with a May 20, 2011 release date on the horizon.

Among the other-worldly folk Capt. Jack and friends will bump up against in this installment are zombies, mermaids and the dastardly Blackbeard, who is played (perfectly, I'm sure) by Ian McShane. Here's the official synopsis: Johnny Depp returns to his iconic role of Captain Jack Sparrow in an action-packed tale of truth, betrayal, youth and demise. When Jack crosses paths with a woman from his past (Penelope Cruz), he’s not sure if it’s love—or if she’s a ruthless con artist who’s using him to find the fabled Fountain of Youth. When she forces him aboard the Queen Anne’s Revenge, the ship of the formidable pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane), Jack finds himself on an unexpected adventure in which he doesn’t know who to fear more: Blackbeard or the woman from his past.
