Activity Goes 80's: 'Paranormal Activity 3' Trailer and Twitter Campaign

Paramount Pictures effectively gave notice that the campaign promoting Paranormal Activity 3 is beginning in earnest with the first official one-sheet, revealed last week.  Just in case you didn't get the message loud and clear, there's now a full-on teaser trailer for the found footage horror movie, which is actually a prequel, taking the story back to 1988, when Tom Cruise reigned supreme with Rain Man and Cocktail, neither of which has any bearing on Paranormal Activity 3.  Not only is there now a trailer, but the studio also rolled out the “Tweet To See It First” campaign, whereby the film will debut three days early in those cities that Tweet the hardest for it.

While Paranormal Activity 2 wasn't screened for critics beforehand, it's been pretty much completely accepted that the second sequel will screen tonight at Fantastic Fest in Austin, a festival jam-packed with internet critics.

Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost, who directed last year's controversial documentary Catfish, take over as directors of the franchise created by Oren Peli and continued by Tod Williams with last's year's sequel.  No word yet on whether or not Schulman's brother Nev will naively fall for a woman he meets online who turns out to be a married ghost or ghoul.  The cast for this round of activity includes Sprague Grayden, Mark Fredrichs, Katie Featherston, and Lauren Bittner.  All except for Bittner, have, of course, appeared in previous installments.

Paranormal Activity 3 is set to hit the vast majority of theaters on October 21st, but to find out how it could drop on October 18th in your burg, take a look at the official press release on the "Tweet To See It First" Twitter shenanigans:

HOLLYWOOD, CA (September 28, 2011 – In an unprecedented move, Paramount Pictures will debut PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 3 exclusively in cities where the most fans “Tweet To See It First”.
