'The Avengers' Get Their First Official Trailer on Tuesday

Over the last week, we've seen plenty of official content from The Avengers getting rolled out, such as Marvel-approved stills of the superteam in action.  As for actual sanctioned footage of the film, though, that's limited to the post-credits teaser that followed Captain America: The First Avenger, which was a rapid-fire montage of images oh-so briefly showing off the likes of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Black Widow, Hawkeye, and Bruce Banner.  While that was basically an exceedingly-teasery teaser trailer, it looks like the first bona-fide trailer for The Avengers is set grace maonitors everywhere on Tuesday, just five days from now.

Marvel Studios made the announcement via the film's page on the obscure social networking site facebook with the declaration, "We’re counting down to the release of “Marvel’s The Avengers” first official trailer! 5 days to go!"

So on Tuesday, October 11th, we'll have an actual trailer for The Avengers.  Later next week, exclusive footage from the film will be screened at New York Comic-Con and select cast members in attendance

The trailer is likely to be very much a teaser, since principal photography wrapped just weeks ago and Joss Whedon is now firmly entrenched in post-production to meet a release date that's just seven months away.  Despite consistent rumors, the villains of the crossover superhero film remain officially undisclosed, and that probably won't change with the first trailer.  Still, I for one am hoping for a look at the newly redesigned Incredible Hulk.  Hulking out or not, expect some snappy Whedonesque dialogue.

Marvel Studios has been working its way toward The Avengers for years now, and all the superheroic pieces are now in place, with Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Jeremy Renner, Cobie Smulders, Tom Hiddleston, and Clark Gregg all showing up for what could very well be the mother of all superhero adventures.

The Avengers arrives in theaters on May 4, 2012.
