Stallone, Willis, and Schwarzenegger on the Set of 'The Expendables 2'

Much of marketing for Sylvester Stallone's hyper-macho 2010 actioner The Expendables included the promise of the erstwhile Rocky and Rambo sharing the silver screen with his fellow top-tier 1980's action icons, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis, best known to action aficionados as The Terminator and John McClane, respectively.  In the film, however, the trio shared just one dialogue scene that relied heavily on winking to the audience at the novelty of these three together at last.  Last month, Willis and Schwarzenegger were confirmed for The Expendables 2, and, perhaps sensing the sensing the collective sigh of indifference at their first cameos, the sequel promised more "substantial" roles for both actors.

The Expendables 2 is now in production in Bulgaria, from whence former California Governor and world class philanderer Schwarzenegger took the opportunity to tweet a photo of himself, Stallone, and Willis.  Stallone is definitely in costume as Barney Ross, while Willis and Arnold seem to be rocking their looks at Church and Trench whilst hanging out on an airfield.

From his @Schwarzenegger handle, Arnold tweeted, "Back in action for The Expendables 2! I'm having a fantastic time on set with Bruce and Sly in Bulgaria."  This image accompanied that update:

It's been a busy week for Schwarzenegger, as he dedicated a museum to his life in his hometown of Thai, Austria, on Friday.

Willis and Arnold are far from the only recognizable faces joining the action for The Expendables 2Jean Claude Van Damme and Chuck Norris have both been confirmed to do some roundhouse kickery in the sequel, while Nicolas Cage and John Travolta have been rumored to throw down in a Face/Off reunion.  The longer we go without confirmation on that, the less likely it seems, however.  Representing a younger side is Liam Hemsworth, who stars in the upcoming The Hunger Games.  He's a newbie among a crew of returning badasses from the first film, including Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Terry Crews, Mickey Rourke, and Randy Couture.

Sylvester Stallone starred in, directed, and wrote the first film, but he's scaling back for the sequel, which Con-Air director Simon West is helming from a screenplay by David Agosto and Ken Kaufman.

The Expendables 2 hits theaters on August 17, 2012.
