Active Duty Navy Seals Bring the Thunder: First Trailer for 'Act of Valor'

The Navy SEALs are some of the most badass individuals to ever walk the Earth, responsible for carrying out the most intricate, precise, and dangerous black ops missions all over the globe.  Rather than rely on actors to provide a portrayal that could never live up to the real thing, the new one-of-a-kind epic film Act of Valor instead stars a group of active-duty SEALs, placing these real-life commandos in a fictionalized story.  The real SEALs provide a never before-seen punch to an original story of globe-spanning adventure, which features some of the most spectacular action set pieces ever committed to film.  Relativity Media released the first trailer today, and it highlights the truly unprecedented access that the United States Navy granted co-directors Mike McCoy and Steve Waugh to create an accurate picture of SEALs get the job done, with weapons and tactics taken directly from reality.

Though the trailer, which is available in high definition at Yahoo! Movies, features skydiving, explosions, scuba missions, and all manner of action, it also shows that the story will portray its characters as real, grounded people, with home lives and responsibilities identifiable to any audience member.

When the first official one sheet poster for Act of Valor was revealed earlier this month, Relativity, Electronic Arts, and Eventful announced a unique event  teaming the film and the anticipated upcoming first person shooter videogame Battlefield 3.  Fans from ten different cities can go to the official Eventful page and vote to bring a special sneak preview of Act of Valor exclusively to their city.  The area that wins will host not only an advance screening of the film, but will also have attendees playing Battlefield 3 on the big screen before its released in stores.

In addition to its wholly unique core cast, Act of Valor also stars Roselyn Sanchez, Alex Veadov, Jason Cottle, and Nester Serrano.  The original screenplay is written by 300 scribe and frequent Zack Snyder collaborator Kurt Johnstad.  Here's the official synopsis:

An unprecedented blend of real-life heroism and original filmmaking, Act of Valor stars a group of active-duty Navy SEALs in a powerful story of contemporary global anti-terrorism. Inspired by true events, the film combines stunning combat sequences, up-to-the minute battlefield technology and heart-pumping emotion for the ultimate action adventure.

Act of Valor takes audiences deep into the secretive world of the most elite, highly trained group of warriors in the modern world. When the rescue of a kidnapped CIA operative leads to the discovery of a deadly terrorist plot against the U.S., a team of SEALs is dispatched on a worldwide manhunt. As the valiant men of Bandito Platoon race to stop a coordinated attack that could kill and wound thousands of American civilians, they must balance their commitment to country, team and their families back home.

Each time they accomplish their mission, a new piece of intelligence reveals another shocking twist to the deadly terror plot, which stretches from Chechnya to the Philippines and from Ukraine to Somalia. The widening operation sends the SEALs across the globe as they track the terrorist ring to the U.S.-Mexico border, where they engage in an epic firefight with an outcome that has potentially unimaginable consequences for the future of America.

Act of Valor is scheduled for a wide release on February 17, 2012.

Full Disclosure: Act of Valor is produced by Relativity Media, iamROGUE's parent company.
