FX's 'Sons of Anarchy' is Bringing the First Interactive iPad Shopping App

It's no longer even a point of debate that we're in the midst of a television renaissance, with cable TV providing fertile ground for a veritable jungle of challenging, high quality serialized stories that are allowed to go well beyond the limits of traditional televised content.  A host of shows currently on the air transcend the medium, and among those shows is FX's Sons of Anarchy.  When it debuted in 2008, the Kurt Sutter-created series immediately won acolytes with it stylish direction and captivating story, which cleverly took the most basic ingredients of Hamlet and dropped them into the brutal, complicated world of a California biker gang.  Currently in its fourth season, with FX having ordered a fifth, Sons of Anarchy will now provide the first ever interactive iPad shopping app, syncing up with episodes as fans watch, allowing them to peruse unique merchandise that ties directly into the show's action.

The "SOA Gear" app will facilitate unprecedented viewer interaction, offering fans not just licensed merchandise, but also behind-the-scenes footage, and related products, as well as jewelry and clothing worn by the show's cast.

Here's how it works: download the "SOA Gear" app when it becomes available on November 1st, the same day that season four's ninth episode, titled "Kiss," airs.  Once you have the app, the Sons of Anarchy Season 3 Blu-ray will use BD-Live technology to immediately sync with the app on your iPad.  As you watch episodes, then, you can simultaneously watch your favorite episodes and engage in a bit of commerce, as the "SOA Gear" app automatically highlights products and features directly related to what's happening in the episode.

Sons of Anarch stars plenty of familiar faces, including Charlie Hunnam, the Undeclared veteran who is set to play the lead in Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim, as well as del Toro muse Ron Perlman, beloved fans of Hellboy and general awesomeness.  There's also Katey Segal, who won our allegiance for all time by voicing Leela on Futurama, and Kim Coates, a damn fine character actor if ever there was one.

Sons of Anarchy airs Tuesday nights, but the first three seasons are available on Blu-ray and DVD.  The "SOA Gear" app for Apple's iPad becomes available for download on November 1st.
