Set Photos: 'The Dark Knight Rises' Shoots in New York

Today, production on The Dark Knight Rises began the final leg of its extensive location filming in New York under its code name Magnus Rex.  We've known for awhile that the two-week New York shoot would begin today in Manhattan, and though a previous rumor suggested that director Christopher Nolan might add the Occupy Wall Street protests to Gotham City turned out to be unfounded, the production was indeed out in full force today.  In fact, the location was quite the opposite of Occupy Wall Street, as Christian Bale and Joseph Gordon-Levitt were on hand to film scenes in and around a monument capitalism, self-glorification, and terrible hair: Trump Tower.

As this latest round of pretty much spoiler-free set photos shows, Donald Trump's edifice to himself is doubling as the headquarters of Wayne Enterprises, which explains why Bruce Wayne is present in one of his many sharp suits.  Gordon-Levitt, meanwhile, is suited up himself, wearing the Gotham City Police uniform of John Blake, a character created specifically for the film.

The first three pictures debuted at JustJared, while the last two were posted on the SuperHeroHype message boards by Raganork8, kvz5 and madcowre.

My father called me from New York this morning, and stumbled upon the shoot, mid-conversation, asking, "What's Magnus Rex?"  A security guy ws then subjected to my dad repeatedly saying "Batman?" in an attempt to get him to admit that Magnus Rex is, in fact, The Dark Knight Rises.  No such luck.

The film will be the finale of the trilogy that Nolan began in 2005 with Batman Begins and continued to crazy-success with The Dark Knight in 2008.  Returning from previous installments are Christian Bale, Gary Oldman, Michael Caine, and Morgan Freeman, while the newcomers include Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Juno Temple, and Josh Pence.

The Dark Knight Rises arrives theatrically on July 20, 2012.
