On Thursday, the competition kicked off, with both Hill and Tatum attempting to amass more Twitter followers than the other. Whichever actor has the greater number of followers by November 2nd will have the distinct honor of tweeting the first link announcing the 21 Jump Street red band trailer. The runner-up will then tweet a link to the first green band trailer on November 4th.
Here's an announcement video from @JonahHill, lobbying for a follow from you and everybody you know:
And here's @ChanningTatum similarly explaining why he deserves your attention on Twitter:
For your edification and enlightenment, check out the official synopsis for the film:
In the action-comedy 21 Jump Street, Schmidt (Jonah Hill) and Jenko (Channing Tatum) are more than ready to leave their adolescent problems behind. Joining the police force and the secret Jump Street unit, they use their youthful appearances to go undercover in a local high school. As they trade in their guns and badges for backpacks, Schmidt and Jenko risk their lives to investigate a violent and dangerous drug ring. But they find that high school is nothing like they left it just a few years earlier - and neither expects that they will have to confront the terror and anxiety of being a teenager again and all the issues they thought they had left behind.
As of right now, Jonah Hill is in the lead of the Tweet-Off, with no less than 715,757 followers, as compared to Channing Tatum's 625,693 followers.
Hill crafted the story for 21 Jump Street with co-writer Michael Bacall, who last co-scripted Scott Pilgrim vs the World. The film marks the live-action debut for Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller. While Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum undoubtedly carry the film, it also features a cast of crack comedic ringers such as Rob Riggle, Brie Larson, Ice Cube, DeRay Davis, Ellie Kemper, Jake M. Johnson, Johnny Simmons, Dave Franco, and cameo from none other than Johnny Depp, whose career launched with a starring role on the original series.
21 Jump Street is scheduled to hit theaters on March 16, 2012.
