Confirmations and New Details: 'Bond 23' is Officially Titled 'Skyfall'

The sensation you're currently feeling is the sweet, sweet satisfaction of official confirmations on a number of rumors related to the twenty-third adventure of superspy and insatiable ladies' man James Bond.  With production set to commence oh-so shortly, Sony Pictures and EON Productions held a proper press conference in London today, with director Sam Mendes, producer Michael Wilson, and stars Daniel Craig, Judi Dench, Naomie Harris, Javier Bardem, and Berenice Marlohe all in attendance.  The biggest news is the official confirmation that Craig's third outing as Bond will indeed be titled Skyfall, as rumored a month ago.

The professionals across the pond at HeyUGuys covered the press conference and conveyed some important information not included in the press release you'll find below.  Among the info-nuggets of relevance is the fact that previously-rumored French actress Berenice Marlohe will play a ‘glamorous, enigmatic character’ named Severin, while Naomie Harris will not be playing Miss Moneypenny, as previously thought, but will instead portray a field agent named Eve, and from the sound of it will be getting in on plenty of action.  Ralph Fiennes, Ben Wishaw, and Albert Finney were all confirmed as well, but their characters were not revealed, given the possibility that fans might recognize a name or two.

Finally, there are new insights onto Skyfall's still largely-mysterious storyline.  While the 2006 reboot Casino Royale set up an overarching storyline that carried through 2008's Quantum of Solace and explored a villainous organization known as QUANTUM to less than satisfying effect.  Skyfall, it seems, will be a stand-alone story, abandoning all that QUANTUM jive.  The press release also indicates that Judi Dench's M, the one actor to carry over into the Daniel Craig Bond-era, will play a more active role, as the official logline (emboldened below) reads, "In SKYFALL, Bond’s loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her.  As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost."

Here's the official press release for your informational pleasure:
