First Images of De Niro and Cooper in David O. Russell's 'The Silver Linings Playbook'

After The Fighter became a huge critical and commercial success last year, director David O. Russell found himself in a good position for his next project, but what that project would be took a little while to pin down.  The man behind Three Kings, Flirting With Disaster, and Spanking the Monkey was attached to Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, but he departed that shamblefest and is currently making The Silver Linings Playbook, a dramatic comedy centered on a broken man who moves in with his mother after spending a few years in an institution.  An official synopsis has made its way online, along with the first official images from the film, featuring Bradley Cooper, Robert De Niro, and Jacki Weaver.

All three images and the synopsis are courtesy of Collider.  All this week, head honco Frosty has been ably covering the American Film Market, where domestic productions put their best foot forward for potential buyers of international distribution rights.

And here's the synopsis:

Adapted from the best-selling novel by Matthew Quick, THE SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK is a touching, one-of-a-kind comedy about love and second chances.

Pat Peoples (Bradley Cooper) is a man always trying to look on the bright side of life – the title of the story takes it’s name from the expression that “every cloud has a silver lining.” Released from the hospital after losing his wife to another man, Pat believes this age-old adage is just the ticket to trying to win her back and get his life on track. Trying to remain resolutely undiscouraged, Pat moves back in with his parents and devotes himself entirely to becoming the man his wife always wanted him to be. But it’s an uphill battle. Until Pat meets Tiffany (Jennifer Lawrence), a beautiful young woman whose life also has not turned out the way she wanted. Together, the couple will try and navigate through their lives and stay true to who they are, always just one adventure away from a unique friendship, and possibly even love.

In addition to Cooper, De Niro, and Weaver, the damned impressive cast of The Silver Linings Playbook includes Julia Stiles, Chris Tucker, Jennifer Lawrence, Shea Whigham, and the reliably great John Ortiz.
