What is 'Catfish'? Official Trailer and Website Launches

With Facebook privacy issues and arguments already raging across the web, the infamous social network is perilously teetering on the edge of a full-fledged media war. Whispers have been spreading around that the mysterious Catfish supplies even more fodder for the fight against the internet giant.  So, the question remains… What is Catfish? And, will it throw off the balance of social media as we know it?

In late 2007, filmmakers Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost sensed a story unfolding as they began to film the life of Ariel’s brother, Nev. They had no idea that their project would lead to the most exhilarating and unsettling months of their lives. A reality thriller that is a shocking product of our times, Catfish is a riveting story of love, deception and grace within a labyrinth of online intrigue.

Catfish, the Sundance hit documentary, is poised to be the most controversial film of 2010. Why? Because it exposes the grim reality of our modern world – a world in which society is more interested in the virtual than the real. If that’s the case, how can we tell what is true and what is false? The sad fact is: we can’t anymore.

The Relativity Media/Rogue Pictures film releases September 17, a few weeks prior to The Social Network, which claims to be the “true” story of Facebook’s creation. But if you’ve learned anything by that point, will you really be able to trust David Fincher’s story? Is it fact? Is it fiction? Is it something else entirely?

You’ll need to judge for yourself when the time comes. For now, appease yourself by visiting Nev’s world at iamrogue.com/catfish or watch the trailer below.  You can trust us, it’s official…
