Radar Online is reporting that Leonardo DiCaprio has dropped out of the untitled Viking epic that Mel Gibson was set to direct him in. The two made the deal, along with screenwriter William Monahan and producer Graham King, last fall for the large-scale action film, but now a source tells Radar there's no chance DiCaprio will team up with the embattled Gibson.

“Leo has earned the right to pick and choose who he works with and Mel Gibson is not one of them,” the source says. Considering he's coming off two of his biggest hits ever in Shutter Island and Inception, I'd be inclined to agree with this decision.

Shooting was set to begin this fall, but obviously now that Gibson is considered untouchable in Hollywood (and not in a good way), it's not surprising to see one of his pet projects take a major blow. It's frankly impossible to picture the Viking film, or any other of Gibson's, getting off the ground this year or next.
