Survive The Holidays: New Poster for 'The Darkest Hour'

A new domestic poster for The Darkest Hour has arrived, and it eschews subtlety, instead acting a blunt force instrument.  That's actually just right for the film, though, which is an alien invasion thriller following a group of young Americans trying to survive in Russia when Earth is descended upon by malicious extraterrestrials who – instead of being the now-standard slimy xenomorphs – are electrical beings with no qualms about zapping humans.  This The Darkest Hour poster includes signs of said electrical beings, Moscow, and mass devastation, along with the big, bold tagline, "Survive The Holidays."  That would be because the film somewhat oddly releases on Christmas day in 3D and 2D.  Now that you have all that context, enjoy the poster and imagine all the alien mayhem the movie will provide.

Summit Entertainment unveiled the one sheet through Yahoo! Movies today.

The young folks desperately trying to stay in the realm of the quick throughout The Darkest Hour are led by Emile Hirsch, of Into the Wild, Speed Racer, and The Girl Next Door.  His compatriots are played by Olivia Thirlby, who did damn fine work in The Wackness and Juno, Rachael Taylor of the new-defunct Charlie's Angels television reboot, and Joel Kinnaman from AMC's The Killing and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, along with Max Minghella, familiar from supporting roles in The Social Network and The Ides of March.

Russian native Timur Bekmambetov produces, with Chris Gorak directing from a screenplay by Jon Spaihts, who wrote the earliest drafts of what became Prometheus, Ridley Scott's upcoming Alien semi-prequel.
