Three New Images from Wolf Fight Spectacular 'The Grey'

Three new images from The Grey have popped up online today, and if you're wondering what The Grey is exactly, it's the movie where Liam Neeson fights a feral wolf, using only a little knife and some jagged mine booze bottles affixed to his fist.  Sadly, these images do not contain Neeson engaging in fisticuffs with a wild animal, but they do remind us that The Grey is also a tense survival thriller about a group of oil-drilling roughnecks who find themselves stranded in the remote Alaskan wilderness following a plane crash.  And because that situation isn't quite horrific enough, they're being picked off by a pack of rogue wolves who presumably love the taste of roughnecks.  So check out the pictures below, knowing in your heart that once The Grey will include an  Oscar caliber actor wrasslin' with a wolf.*

Big thanks to Joblo, as these images debuted over yonder.

This film sees Neeson, curiously reborn as an action star over the last few years, reuniting with writer-director Joe Carnahan, for whom he played Hannibal in last year's The A-Team.  Carnahan's an interesting director, and I have hopes for The Grey specifically because of its simple, stripped down story.  While I unabashedly love Carnahan's underseen Narc, his subsequent efforts, Smokin' Aces and The A-Team have been stuffed to the point of sensory overload.  The paranoia and desperation of this film could allow for more straightforward tension.

Neeson and some wolves are the stars here, but both are supported by a cast that includes James Badge Dale, Dermot Mulroney, Dallas Roberts, and Frank Grillo.

The Grey is scheduled for January 27, 2012.

*This has kind of happened before: see the no-good Wolf, in which Jack Nicholson turns into a werewolf.  Sorta.
