Warner Bros. is remaking the whimsical 2000 Irish comedy Wild About Harry and has set veteran TV scribe Kirk Rudell ("Will and Grace") to write the screenplay. No director has been announced, nor has an actor, but it sounds like a perfect leading man role for someone who can play a likable dirtbag (Russell Crowe?).
The original film starred Brendan Gleeson as a sleazy TV chef who's beaten up on the eve of his divorce hearing. He suffers partial amnesia and can't remember anything past his 18th year. His condition gives him the opportunity to right the mistakes he's made in life.
The cynic in me would love to see a tale like this end catastrophically. Just once! I haven't seen the original film, but I'm guessing everything works out for Harry. (I loathe to think of the "hilarious" situations where Harry, thinking he's 18, starts partaking in an 18-year-old's activities.)
Michael Connolly (How to Train Your Dragon) and his Mad Hatter Entertainment shingle will produce. Paramount was apparently attempting to remake the property in 2004, but never got it off the ground.
