The fourth installment in the Underworld franchise finds the death-dealing vampire Seline waking up after years in cryogenic imprisonment at the hands of humans. The world she finds is one which humanity has discovered the existence of both vampires and werewolves and is in the midst of winning an all-out war on both species. Ass-kicking and whatnot naturally ensues.

Beckinsale was last seen as Seline in 2006's Underworld: Evolution, but she sat out the 2009 prequel Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, in which Rhona Mitra played a variation on the requisite lead role of sexy lady who also kills lots of people. Though Beckinsale is back, original director Len Wiseman is busy helming next year's Total Recall remake starring Colin Farrell and Beckinsale. In his place are Swedish directors Mans Marlind and Bjorn Stein, overseeing a cast that includes Stephen Rea, Michael Ealy, India Eisley, Sandrine Holt, Kris Holden-Ried, and Charles Dance, who Game of Thrones fans recognize as Tywin Lannister, a man who generally likes to pay his debts.
Underworld Awakening is set to hit theaters in 3D on January 20, 2012.
