Confirmed: The Teaser Poster for Ridley Scott's 'Prometheus'

One of the biggest question marks for next summer is Prometheus, the first science fiction film from director Ridley Scott since 1982's Blade Runner.  While pretty much every major summer 2012 movie has released a teaser trailer, we've seen no actual footage from Prometheus aside from the Comic-Con footage that made it clear, visually at least, that the film does indeed take place within the universe of Alien.  A teaser trailer should be arriving shortly, but today we may have a look at the film's teaser poster.  There's no confirmation that the image you'll find below is, in fact, the official teaser poster, but is very much in line with the images we've seen from the film, with a tiny little spacesuited explorer before a giant, creepy face.

UPDATE: Well, that didn't take long.  20th century Fox has issued a hi-res, official version of the poster, confirming the original image's validity.  Here it is:

Fox has intentionally cultivated an air of mystery around the project, and this possible teaser, which is courtesy of Alien Prequel News, is very much in line with that mysterious vibe.  The tagline featured here is illegible in the actual image, but it reads "The Search for Our Beginning Could Lead to Our End."

We'll probably know in the next few days whether or not this is legitimate, and I suspect that it just might be.

Ridley Scott is making his first 3D feature with Prometheus (purchase some Rogue 3D Eyewear to see it in style), and the highly visual director, known as a builder immersive, fully realized worlds, has declared emphatically the intends to make every movie for the remainder of his career in three dimensions.

With a screenplay by Jon Spaihts and Damon Lindelof, Scott managed to recruit an extraordinarily promising cast led by Noomi Rapace, who plays a supporting role in this Friday's Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.  Amongst the crew of the titular spacecraft are Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender, Logan Marsall-Green, Idris Elba, Guy Pearce, Kate Dickie, and Patrick Wilson.

Prometheus arrives in theaters on June 8, 2012.
