Full 'Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance' Trailer Brings Hellfire and Mayhem

Earlier this week we saw a new official one sheet for Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, and now, in time honored fashion, a full theatrical trailer has followed in that poster's flaming footsteps. Based on this trailer, the sequel to Mark Steven Johnson's Ghost Rider would seem to be focused squarely on ridiculous action, just as you'd expect from Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, the aggro-duo behind both Crank movies and Gamer. The trailer also gives our first idea of the Spirit of Vengeance storyline, such as it is, which finds Nicolas Cage's Johnny Blaze playing the hero in order to protect a young boy from becoming the human vessel for the Anti-Christ.

The eventual movie will be in 3D, so perhaps some Rogue 3D Eyewear is called for. The trailer obviously remains in two dimensions, but it is available in HD at Yahoo! Movies, where it debuted today.

Sony screened Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance for those lucky folks attending Harry Knowles's Butt-Numb-A-Thon movie marathon, probably intending to get some talk going in conjunction with the poster and trailer. Unfortunately, the response from the BNAT crowd has been almost unanimously negative, in many cases extremely so. Since the folks in attendance are predisposed to enjoy the film, given their tastes and probable predilection for comic book material, that vitriolic response does not bode too well for the sequel.

Nicolas Cage is the only holdover from 2007's misbegotten take on the character, and this time he's surrounded by a cast that includes Idris Elba, Violante Placido, Johnny Whitworth, Fergus Riordan, Christopher Lambert, and Ciaran Hinds as the devil himself.

GHost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance is scheduled for February 17, 2012.
