Lenticular First Poster for 'Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter'

What if William Shakespeare was secretly a Ghostbuster?  What if Queen Victoria was a time traveling detective?  What if Abraham Lincoln was really a vampire slayer in his spare time?  That last one is actually a movie, an upcoming 3D action adventure from 20th Century Fox titled Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and based on the Seth Grahame-Smith novel of the same name.  Fox has released the first poster for the film, and it's a lenticular bit of business, changing backgrounds from the interior of the White House to a moonlit field depending on the angle at which it's viewed.  That's only in person, obviously, so the online version is actually two separate posters, but you get the idea.

Both halves of the first official poster debuted over at IGN today, and one imagines that a trailer should follow in the near future, what with the time for promoting summer 2012 movies pretty well at hand.

This is just one of two movies centered on Honest Abe arriving in 2012.  The second is Steven Spielberg's Lincoln, which stars Daniel Day Lewis and boasts source material by a Pulitzer Prize-winning historian, with a screenplay by a Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright.  Maybe I'm out of touch, but that seems to me to be the obvious Lincoln project to be thrilled about.  Having not read the novel on which Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is based, the concept feels like the nadir of mashup novelty culture.

Timur Bekmambetov, the director of Night Watch, Day Watch, and Wanted, is working from a script by Seth Grahame-Smith and Simon Kinberg, with Tim Burton supplying some juice and name recognition as producer.  Benjamin Walker is playing the action hero version of Abe Lincoln, with Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Mary Todd Lincoln.  The rest of the cast includes Anthony Mackie, Dominic Cooper, Alan Tudyk, Jimmi Simpson, and Rufus Sewell.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is scheduled for June 22, 2012.  With so many 3D features arriving next summer, you can pick up Rogue 3D Eyewear by clicking right here.
