The story centers on Armando, a good-natured imbecile who works on his father's ancestral farm. When he far more successful brother Raul, played by Luna, returns home with a beautiful fiancee, played by Genesis Rodriguez, Armando begins a torrid affair with the gorgeous woman. That's just for starters, though, as it turns out Raul's fortune comes from the drug trade, and the family becomes the target of one of the world's most fearsome drug lords. That drug lord is portrayed by Gael Garcia Bernal, Luna's co-star in Alfonso Cuaron's outstanding Y tu mama Tambien.
The film is written by Andrew Steele, a longtime Saturday Night Live contributor, with fellow SNL and Funny or Die veteran Matt Piedmont directing. Piedmont already deserves kudos for the inspired casting of Gael Garcia Bernal as a menacing drug kingpin.
Casa de mi Padre opens in limited release on March 16, 2012.
