The story follows Armando Alvarez, an ineffectual ranch hand on his father's ancestral property who falls in love with his younger, more successful brother's gorgeous fiancee when the prodigal son returns home. The brother brings with him all manner of craziness, though, as it turns out he's made his fortune in the drug trade, and Mexico's most merciless drug lord has a beef and intends to destroy the Alvarez ranch.

The film is directed by Matt Piedmont, who has created a whole lot of content for Funny or Die, and the screenplay is written by Andrew Steele, a Funny or Die and Saturday Night Live veteran who also contributed to the Nickelodeon series Doug so many moons ago. Adam McKay, the director of Anchorman, Talladega Nights, Step Brothers, and The Other Guys, is a producer here, and you have to admire how willing he and Ferrell are to go for broke.
Ferrell leads the cast, which also includes Genesis Rodriguez, as well as Y tu mama tambien duo Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna. Nick Offerman, the man behind Ron Swanson's mustache on NBC's Parks and Recreation,* also appears.
Casa de mi Padre opens in limited release on March 16, 2012.
