Megan Fox and Josh Duhamel Hunt for a Host in an Academy Awards Trailer

This week we've had several reminders of the fact that we are indeed smack dab in the middle of awards season thanks to three batches of nominations from professional guilds. To cap off the work week, though, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has gone ahead and released the first trailer for the 84th Annual Academy Awards. The trailer clocks in at just about a minute, and it's an intentionally-cliche ridden mock epic that has Transformers stars Megan Fox and Josh Duhamel hunting down an elusive figure known simply as "The Host." Along the way, the intrepid duo (a trio if you count Duhamel's mustache) encounter a couple familiar figures who help on their quest.

The trailer, a new exhibit in the Academy's strange dichotomy between its old-fashioned tendencies and the need for a younger viewership, is here thanks to Variety, so head over that way to verse yourself in nonsense colloquialisms like "skedded."

If you want to win me over with anything, be sure to start off with some William Fichtner. You no doubt recognized Vinnie Jones and Robin Williams, too. Oh hey, Billy Crystal, stepping in to host for the eighth time after Eddie Murphy, the previously announced host, bailed on the proceedings. Crystal hasn't hosted since The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King swept the Oscars in 2004. The latest Crystal-cast ceremony will be broadcast live on ABC at 7:00 pm EST on February 27th.
