As you'd expect, it contains Milla Jovovich doing her badass thing as series heroine Alice, along with attractive ladies Sienna Guillory and Michelle Rodriguez battling their way through a zombie-infected postapocalyptic wasteland. What's more than that, it also includes two rock-solid musical choices. The first, "Baba O'Riley" by The Who, plays during the opening moments, which quite effectively play like a Sony commercial. Then the trailer gets all ambitious, with Jovovich chilling atop the White House, and the rest is accompanied by a sampling of Daft Punk's TRON: Legacy score.
The trailer is available in high definition over at Yahoo! Movies, where it debuted this morning.
Here's the recently unveiled official synopsis:
The wildly successful film franchise adaptation that has grossed nearly $700 million worldwide to the popular video game series, “Resident Evil,” returns in its highly anticipated fifth installment, “Re5ident Evil: Retribution” in state-of-the art 3D.
The Umbrella Corporation’s deadly T-virus continues to ravage the Earth, transforming the global population into legions of the flesh eating Undead. The human race’s last and only hope, Alice (Milla Jovovich), awakens in the heart of Umbrella’s most clandestine operations facility and unveils more of her mysterious past as she delves further into the complex. Without a safe haven, Alice continues to hunt those responsible for the outbreak; a chase that takes her from Tokyo to New York, Washington, D.C. and Moscow, culminating in a mind-blowing revelation that will force her to rethink everything that she once thought to be true. Aided by newfound allies and familiar friends, Alice must fight to survive long enough to escape a hostile world on the brink of oblivion. The countdown has begun.
After sitting out the second and third Resident Evil movies, Apocalypse and Extinction, original director (and real-life husband to Milla Jovovich) Paul W.S. Anderson returned for 2010's Resident Evil: Afterlife. Having brought 3D to the franchise with that film and subsequently three dimensionalizing The Three Musketeers, Anderson is back with Retribution. Like those two movies, this one will no doubt include plenty of stuff flying out at the audience, an experience that works best with Rogue 3D Eyewear.
Jovovich, Rodriguez, and Guillory all reprise their roles from past installments, and they're joined by Oded Fehr, Bingbing Li, Jason Isaacs, Kevin Durand, Johann Urb, and Shawn Roberts.
Re5ident Evil: Retribution hits theaters on September 14th.
