Wolves vs. Neeson: New Red Band Trailer for 'The Grey'

With just a few days until the film actually hits theaters, a new trailer for The Grey has made its way online.  This trailer is notable for two things, being an age-restricted red band deal, and also being thoroughly badass.  It quite effectively exploits several very basic fears both modern and instinctual, from the fear of being in a place crash to the fear of freezing to death to the altogether more immediate fear of getting eaten by f*cking wolves.

What the is the only natural force that stands a chance against such seemingly insurmountable fears?  Liam Neeson, obviously.  Check out the trailer here or in high definition at Break to see Neeson complete the transformation of his pop-cultural persona from stoic prestige actor to fearsome, unstoppable alpha male.

I'm legitimately excited for The Grey.  Co-writer and director Joe Carnahan made a huge impression with his sophomore feature Narc back in 2002.  His two features since, Smokin' Aces and The A-Team, were both relentlessly busy (not that that's necessarily a bad thing), and I'm really curious to see what he could do with a scaled back, simple story like this one.  Reviews are rolling out daily, and they're generally quite strong, so let's hope this is something special.

Carnahan directs from a screenplay by himself and Ian Mackenzie Jeffers.  Neeson is obviously the only cast you really need, but there is nonetheless a strong ensemble that includes James Badge Dale, Dermot Mulroney, Ben Bray, Frank Grillo, Dallas Roberts, and Joe Anderson.

The Grey opens this Friday, January 27th.
