First 'Safe House' Clip: Denzel Will Choke You With Handcuffs

The first clip from Safe House has debuted online, and shockingly, it features not a single line of dialogue.

Instead of introducing Tobin, the character played by two-time Oscar winner Denzel Washington, with a well-written monologue or an observant character note, it focuses mostly on his attempt to choke out Ryan Reynolds with a pair of handcuffs.  You might think of that scene in No Country for Old Men when Javier Bardem similarly chokes an unsuspecting rural cop, but this clip happens while Reynolds is trying to drive a car at inadvisable speeds through a metropolitan area.  Take that, Coen Brothers.

The clip debuted today at IGN, and if you're looking for some context on all the grunting, attempting choking, and reckless driving, just keep reading.

The film, written by David Guggenheim, stars Reynolds as a young CIA agent tasked with protecting one of the most dangerous criminal on the planet.  When their safe house is compromised, the thoroughly in over his head agent finds himself attempting to outwit not just the mercenaries on Tobin's tail, but obviously, Tobin himself.

Swedish director Daniel Espinosa oversees the action.  Based on this clip, there will be no shortage of action, but there's also a pretty incredible cast of actors like Vera Farmiga, Brendan Gleeson, Tanit Phoenix, Joel Kinnaman, Robert Patrick, and, most importantly, Sam Shepard (more commonly known as Sam Freakin' Shepard).

Safe House arrives in theaters on February 10th.
