Steve Zaillian

Oscar-winner Steve Zaillian adapted The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, which is probably the most buzzed about project in many many years. He must have done a phenomenal job because Sony Pictures Entertainment is looking to hire him for the subsequent stories.

Zaillian is currently in talks to adapt the second book of the Lisbeth Salander series, The Girl Who Played with Fire. Sony is hoping to retain his services for the entire series. As Deadline puts it,

"It makes sense that SPE wants the Oscar-winning scribe Zaillian back for an encore. Both Potter and Twilight have been able to balance quality with speed by having the same screenwriter from start to finish. Steve Kloves has scripted all but one of the Harry Potter films for Warner Bros, while Melissa Rosenberg has scripted all five Twilight Saga films for Summit Entertainment. WME is making Zaillian's deal."

Daniel Craig has signed options to star in all 3 films; director David Fincher is still screen testing actresses to take on the coveted role of Salander. Assuming all things go well and production remains on time, Dragon Tattoo will be released December 2011, hopefully followed soon after by Fire.
