Based on a true story, Argo takes place during the Iran Hostage Crisis that went down from 1979-1981. While 52 Americans were being held hostage in the American Embassy in Tehran, six Americans were hiding in the Canadian Embassy. In order to covertly rescue those six Americans, a CIA team infiltrated the country by posing as a Hollywood film production scouting locations. Affleck plays Tony Mendez, who cooks up the strange and daring mission.

Between Gone Baby Gone and The Town, Affleck's had quite a career as a director, and Argo takes his outside his Bostonian comfort zone. Not only that, but he co-wrote both of those films, adapting them from novels, while Argo is written by Chris Terrio, based on an article by Joshuah Bearman.
As was the case with both his previous directorial endeavors, Affleck has pulled together a crazy-impressive cast that includes Alan Arkin, Kyle Chandler, Bryan Cranston, John Goodman, Clea DuVall, Michael Parks, Tate Donovan, and the criminally underused Rory Cochrane.
Also in the cast is Titus Welliver, a character actor who has been in Affleck's past two films and with whom IAR just had an exclusive interview. Check out what Welliver had to say about Argo by clicking right here.
Argo is set for September 14th.
