If the internet had a head, it probably would've exploded last October when creator Mitchell Hurwitz and stars Jason Bateman and Will Arnett dropped the news that not only would there be a full-on Arrested Development movie, but it would be preceded by a ten-episode television revival of the series so that we could properly catch up with all the characters before launching into the movie.
Netflix subsequently got involved with the television component, the next in its concentrated effort to create original television content like House of Cards, the series from David Fincher.
Because it seems too good to be true, we evidently need constant confirmation that this is a real thing that is actually going down. And going down it definitely is, as Dean Lorey posted on his personal blog an update that the writing staff is at work in actual offices and the series will shoot this year. Sayeth, Lorey,
"We’re really doing this thing. Mitch Hurwitz, Jim Vallely and I are off writing the new season of ARRESTED to premiere on Netflix in 2013. The original cast is back. There are offices and parking spaces. We’re shooting this year. I wish I could give more specifics but, for the moment, even the schedule is being kept under wraps. But it’s happening and it’s great to be back with my pals from the show. More later as it becomes okay to release further details…"
There you go. In addition to Bateman and Arnett, the rest of the cast is definitely coming back. That means we'll once again be seeing Portia de Rossi, David Cross, Michael Cera, Tony Hale, Alia Shawkat, Jeffrey Tambor, and Jessica Walter in the roles they so perfectly inhabited. Executive producer and narrator Ron Howard will also be returning in both capacities.
