Final 'Chronicle' Trailer Goes All-Out With Superpowers and Spoilers

The found footage style has been limited almost exclusively to the horror genre, with the faux-real, shaky cam aesthetic lending itself to cheap jump scares and characters panting incessantly.  The new found footage feature Chronicle, though, eschews the horror trappings of The Blair Witch Project, Paranormal Activity, and even Cloverfield.  Instead, Chronicle, grafts the now-ubiquitous superhero origin story onto the found footage gimmick.  A new, final trailer for the film, which arrives in theaters tomorrow, suggests that the combination could provide a jolt of life to the young found footage form.

With just hours until the movie is actually playing in theaters, it might seem a strange time to drop a spoiler-heavy trailer that essentially lays out one of the main character's entire arc, but Chronicle is playing surprisingly well with critics and audiences seem potentially high on the concept, so Fox is naturally riding a wave of interest here.

Again, beware of spoilers, since this basically sums up a huge portion of the film from beginning to end in very linear fashion.

This is the debut feature of Josh Trank, who is working from a screenplay by Max Landis, the son of legendary director John Landis.  Found footage movies usually take it on the chin critically, but on the eve of Chronicle's release, it's standing at 88% on Rotten Tomatoes.  So basically, this could be something pretty special.  The trio of teens who end up with telekinetic powers are played by Michael B. Jordan, Alex Russell, and Dane DeHaan, all of whom receive support from a cast that includes Michael Kelly, Anna Wood, and Ashley Hinshaw.

Chronicle hits theaters tomorrow, February 3rd.
