Big Emotional Beats in a New 'The Hunger Games' Trailer

One day, two big happenings pertaining to The Hunger Games.  It's still early, but the second big news on the potentially huge adaptation of Suzanne Collins's first novel in her dystopian Panem trilogy is the release of a new theatrical trailer.  It's brief, clocking in at not much more than one minute, but it does a lot with the time, hitting a bunch of big emotional notes, getting across the basic concept of the eponymous competition, and setting up the dystopia of Panem.

This is the third trailer for the film, following the underwhelming teasery teaser back in August, then November's full trailer that won a lot of converts.  The new trailer does everything that the second did, but more succinctly and at a fevered emotional pitch, by which I mean to say that this is the best preview thus far.

Check it out below or head over to Yahoo! Movies to view in full high definition.

The trailer drops with exactly fifty days from the theatrical debut of The Hunger Games, and Yahoo! is one of 50 sites hosting a competition that will allow fans to attend the film's premiere in the Nokia Theater at the LA Live complex in Downtown Los Angeles.  Check out Yahoo! for all the details on how you can tweet your way to the premiere.

Earlier today we saw a new image from the film and the official announcement that the feature will get a one-week IMAX run, which nicely allows this new trailer to feature that tag of "In Theaters and IMAX."

Jennifer Lawrence stars as Katniss Everdeen, and the central romantic trio is filled out by Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth as Peeta Mellark and Gale Hawthorne, respectively.  This trailer gives our best look at Caesar Flickerman, played by Stanley Tucci.  The rest of the cast includes Woody Harrelson, Wes Bentley, Lenny Kravitz, Donald Sutherland, and Toby Jones.

The Hunger Games arrives on March 23rd.
