Stellan Skarsgard

Things are really starting to move on the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo front. Just yesterday we told you that screenwriter Steven Zaillian was in the process of reaching a deal to write the second film in the acclaimed trilogy, and now I'm here to bring the news that another actor is close to joining the first one. (Sorry, it's not "Lisbeth". Yet.)

Swedish thespian Stellan Skarsgard is in talks to come aboard the David Fincher movie. The actor would play Martin Vanger, one of the principal suspects in the 40-year-old disappearance of a teenage girl. I must admit that I'm not familiar with the story, so I'm not positive how integral this character is, but I'm sure a good portion of you know who he is... (The book is popular, right?)

"I have met Fincher, I want to work with him, he wants to work me. I have had a concrete offer and now we are in negotiations," Skarsgard told Variety. "The contract is for the period September to March, but I don't know yet when I am supposed to start my part of the film."

If the deal goes through, Skarsgard would join Daniel Craig in the adaptation of Stieg Larsson's novel, which has a December 21, 2011 release date. The major role of "Lisbeth" is reportedly close to being filled, with the group of contenders reportedly narrowed down to four.
