A Handful of New 'John Carter' Images With Dejah Thoris and Woola

Modern audiences are very much familiar with Edgar Rice Burroughs' hero Tarzan, but not so much with his other heavy hitter, the Civil War soldier-turned Martian messiah John Carter, who first appeared in A Princess of Mars almost a century ago.  Disney has been trying to get the name out there, as evidenced by yesterday's Super Bowl TV spot for John Carter in which the name was sort of the central image, despite all the aliens and epic happenings.

A new batch of seven images from the film include no names, but quite a few digital aliens, such as Tars Tarka and Carter's sidekick Woola.  More importantly, the Princess of Barsoom herself, Dejah Thoris, is front and center.

All seven of the images below are here before your eyes thanks to the beautiful Frenchmen over at CineHeroes.

There's only a month until John Carter arrives in theaters, and the marketing still hasn't conveyed much story beyond, "This guy who can jump crazy-far is someplace with lots of CGI and fighting."  To anyone unfamiliar with the property, it isn't even clear that the film takes place on Mars, and I wonder if there's an actual reluctance to display that in the marketing, or if the next month will see more of the Barsoom story clarified for folks.

Andrew Stanton has assembled a vast supporting cast for his first live action feature, including Willem Dafoe, Polly Walker, Mark Strong, Ciaran Hinds, Bryan Cranston, James Purefoy, Samantha Morton, and Daryl Sabara.  The two leads, Carter and Dejah Thoris, are played by Taylor Kitsch and Lynn Collins, both of whom appeared in X-Men Origins: Wolverine but have yet to carry a movie on this scale.

Get your Rogue 3D Eyewear post haste, as John Carter does its thing in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D on March 9th.
