The science fiction project, formerly titled One Thousand A.E. centers on offscreen father and son Will and Jaden as an onscreen father and son pair whose spacecraft crash lands on Earth in the distant future, way after some fairly apocalyptic happenings. When the father is captured by restless natives, it's up to his young son to seek out and save his progenitor.
The first two images, featuring Smith rocking the salt-and-pepper hair that he first wore in I Am Legend, come from the erstwhile Fresh Prince's own Facebook, while all the images after that are courtesy of Shyamalan's official site.

Shyamalan made a big departure from his past efforts with The Last Airbender, taking on an established property, as opposed to generating his own material, as he did from The Sixth Sense through The Happening. In that instance, though, he still wrote the screenplay. Here, we're looking purely at Shyamalan as a director for the first time, since he's working from a script by The Book of Eli scribe Gary Whitta and Traffic writer Stephen Gaghan.
This is the second time the Smiths will appear alongside one another onscreen, following the Jaden's feature debut in 2006's The Pursuit of Happyness. In the six years since, the younger Smith has gone on to star in The Day the Earth Stood Still and play the title character in the remake of The Karate Kid. Though they're the central figures here, the supporting cast apparently includes Zoe Kravitz, Sophie Okonedo, and Isabelle Fuhrman.
After Earth is scheduled to hit theaters on June 7, 2013.
