Clever 'The Hunger Games' Motion Posters for Fictitious Products

The sheer amount of marketing material pertaining to The Hunger Games ensured that I long ago ran out of things to say about the adaptation of Suzanne Collins's first novel in the crazy-popular young adult novel trilogy.  It's been months of casting speculation, announcements, and endless new images, but today there's a bit of The Hunger Games promotion is quite novel, effectively eye-catching, and really sort of funny.

There are three new motion posters featuring Wes Bentley, Lenny Kravitz, and Stanley Tucci in character as Seneca Crane, Cinna, and Caesar Flickerman.  All three function as ads for fictitious products within the world of the film, the futuristic dystopia of Panem.  While the twelve districts of the land formerly known as America are all poor, hardscrabble places, the Capitol is a culture of grotesque lavishness.  These posters reflect that culture, and I hope that someone was aware of their resemblance to the real life Capitol Colors nail polish product tying into the film.

All three motion posters are from the film's official site, but gossip blog Oh No They Didn't pointed the way.

All three characters are supporting players in The Hunger Games once the action moves to the Capitol, but the the film is on the shoulders of Jennifer Lawrence, playing the heroine Katniss Everdeen.  Josh Hutcherson plays the second lead, and the rest of the cast is rounded out with the likes of Liam Hemsworth, Elizabeth Banks, Woody Harrelson, Isabelle Fuhrman, Alexander Ludwig, Toby Jones, and Donald Sutherland.

The film, directed by Gary Ross, hits theaters on March 23rd.
