Depp and Green in a New Image from Tim Burton's 'Dark Shadows'

Hey, it's a one-two punch of news relating to summer projects from Tim Burton and Seth Grahame-Smith.  First we had the teaser trailer for Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, the 3D action-epic produced by directed by Timur Bekmambetov, produced by Burton, and based on the mashup novel by Grahame-Smith.  Now we have a new image from Dark Shadows, the cinematic update of creator Dan Curtis's creaky but nonetheless beloved gothic soap opera that ran from 1966-1970.

The new image, like pretty much every one that preceded it, features Burton-muse Johnny Depp as Barnabas Collins, and this time he's joined by Eva Green as Angelique Bouchard.  Barnabas was a pre-Revolutionary War heartbreaker who made the mistake of bedding Angelique, a witch who responded by turning him into a vampire and burying him alive for two hundred years.  So there's a history at work here.

This particular image debuted at the blog Luces Carama.

The film follows Barnabas as he unburies himself in the late 20th Century and naturally returns to his palatial estate, which he finds dilapidated and inhabited by his descendants.  The family and those affiliated with them all have their own dysfunctions and whatnot to facilitate all manner of soap-y drama.  With Depp as Barnabas, the ensemble is populated by plenty of solid actors, including Michelle Pfeiffer, Jonny Lee Miller, Chloe Moretz, Helena Bonham Carter, Bella Heathcote, Christopher Lee, Jackie Earle Haley, and Gulliver McGrath.

Dark Shadows hits theaters on May 11th, meaning we should be seeing a proper trailer sooner rather than later.
