First off, check out the clip, which premiered over at Coming Soon. It features Taylor Kitsch as Carter, Lynn Collins as Dejah Thoris, and Willem Dafoe (via motion-capture) as Tars Tarkas. Together, they use geography and a tiny boat to avoid a horde of pissed-off looking aliens and Matai Sheng, an imposing fellow played by villain-extraordinaire Mark Strong.
And now for the promo, with thanks to Yahoo! Movies. If you've been irked by the title change from John Carter of Mars to just John Carter, then this helps by being a rare bit of marketing that explicitly acknowledges the setting, albeit in a pretty clunky manner.
Andrew Stanton is making his live-action directorial debut, having helmed Finding Nemo and WALL-E at Pixar. He follows fellow member of the Pixar brain trust Brad Bird, the Ratatouille and The Incredibles director moved into live-action with Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol. Stanton co-wrote the screenplay with Pixarian Mark Andrews (co-director of this summer's Brave) and Michael Chabon, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author responsible for The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay and The Yiddish Policeman's Union. Chabon also has a story credit on 2004's Spider-Man 2.
Anyways, John Carter hits theaters on March 9th.
