The ACE feature film awards are divided into three best editing categories making distinctions between drama, comedy or musical, and animated films. Kevin Tent's work on The Descendants secured that film the dramatic Eddie, while Anne-Sophie Bion and director Michel Hazanviscius were lauded for The Artist in the comedy and musical division. Rango continued its awards season domination of animated categories thanks in this case to Craig Wood.
Since everything must by law tie into the upcoming Academy Awards, we're obligated to mention that the winner of the dramatic ACE Eddie has coincided with the Best Picture Oscar winner every year for the last decade. In 2002, the winner, Chicago, also won an Eddie on the comedy/musical side, a happening that might just happen again with The Artist, the Oscars play out as predictably as they're wont to do.
Much-loved comedian, Classic American Gasbag, and Downton Abbey celebrant Patton Oswalt hosted the Eddie ceremony, where The Descendants director Alexander Payne received the non-competitive ACE Golden Eddie Filmmaker of the Year Award and longtime Clint Eastwood collaborator Joel Cox was given a lifetime achievement award. Between the Eddies, the Annies, and the VES Awards, Oswalt has now hosted three awards shows this year as part of a nefarious plan the details of which are not yet clear to the authorities.
Anyways, here's the full winners list, including some love for Breaking Bad and No Reservations with Anthony Bourdain:
