M at Work: Official Behind the Scenes Image from 'Skyfall'

After seemingly endless delays and literally years of fevered rumors whilst it was still being referred to as Bond 23, we are now creeping ever closer to the November release of Skyfall.  A new completely legit and official behind the scenes image reminds of us of the fact that the film is currently in production, showing Judi Dench back in the saddle as M, with cinematographer Roger Deakins setting up a shot and director Sam Mendes sip-sapping a coffee.

The new image debuted on the Skyfall facebook page as a tease for Mendes's first videoblog, which is set to go online tomorrow.  Also included were some words from the director that will presumably be included in that videoblog.  Sayeth Mendes, "The roots of my doing this Bond movie start way before anybody approached me because, like everyone else, I have my own personal relationship with Bond which began when I was I suppose about nine or ten years old. I’ve always been a fan of the movies."

Take note that M uses a Sony laptop, which is probably a weird coincidence since Skyfall is co-financed and distributed by Sony Pictures.

But let's double back here to the gentleman behind the camera, Roger Deakins.  In addition to bringing his frequent composer Thomas Newman into the Bond franchise, Mendes also squired Deakins into the series, and this is exciting because Deakins is one of the very best cinematographers around.

A nine-time Oscar nominee, Deakins has shot pretty much every Coen Brothers movie since Barton Fink, including Fargo, No Country for Old Men, True Grit, and O Brother Where Art Thou.  He worked with Mendes on Jarhead and Revolutionary Road.  Other notable Deakins credits include The Shawshank Redemption, House of Sand and Fog, and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.

Anyways, Daniel Craig returns in his third, and what I still suspect will be final, outing as Ian Fleming's unstoppably sexy and smoothly violent secret agent.  Judi Dench is the only other returning castmember, as Craig and Dench are joined this time by Javier Bardem, Naomie Harris, Ralph Fiennes, Berenice Marlohe, Ben Whishaw, Helen McCrory, and Albert Finney.

Skyfall arrives in Stateside theaters on November 9th.
