Apparently the French are big fans of Friday Night Lights, on which Kitsch played the irascible Riggins, because he's the poster's big selling point. 2012 is a big year for Kitsch. Next month he stars as the title character in Disney's John Carter, playing Edgar Rice Burroughs' pulp sci-fi hero. Then, this summer, there's Battleship and Oliver Stone's Savages, where he plays a pot-dealing ex-Navy SEAL.

Though Battleship bares the name of the Hasbo guessing game and Hasbro is indeed producing the film, director Peter Berg has acknowledged that, beyond the title and some peg-like weaponry used by the alien enemy, there's not really a relationship between the movie and the game. Berg, who directed the film Friday Night Lights, has worked with Kitsch before on the television version, and he'll work with him again on the true-life military story Lone Survivor.
Berg, whose credits also include The Rundown, Hancock, and The Kingdom, directs a cast that also includes Liam Neeson, Alexander Skarsgard, Rihanna, Brooklyn Decker, Josh Pence, Peter MacNicol, and Jesse Plemons, who played lovable doofus Landry on Friday Night Lights.
Battleship arrives in 2D on May 18th.
