'Let Me In' Promotion Hits Close to Home

Is it already Halloween?

You’d think so by the creepy message I received in the mail today.

A postcard was delivered at my doorstep, and there was something very odd about it. The picture is of Los Alamos, New Mexico and the postcard itself came from Ottowi Station Science Museum Shop and Bookstore from the same area. It is a pretty view with blue skies…

Clearly, that wasn’t the creepy part.

On the back of the card, somebody had written a note in Morse code. Generally, a friend or relative doesn’t just offer up a ‘Hi, from New Mexico!’ that way. What was the message? Was somebody really unhappy with a review? After all, the one word that seemed very clear was the final one… “Die”! Further investigation was clearly required.

“I Must Be Gone and Live, or Stay and Die.” was the final translation we found.

Sound familiar? Well, you may recognize it as a quote from Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. It may also ring a bell with fans of the shockingly good and scary, Let the Right One In.

That’s it!

The puzzle came together. It seems as though there is some very cryptic and incredibly clever marketing going on for Matt Reeves remake, Let Me In starring Kodi-Smit McPhee, Chloe Moretz and Richard Jenkins. While it might have been a little disconcerting at first, I have to admit, if they put this much creativity into the marketing of the film, it may very well stand on its own as a great new vampire flick!

Let Me In looks to be scaring up a whole new audience when it takes a bite out of theatres on October 1.

Who knows what’s going to be in my mailbox next time? I’ll keep you posted.
