Avatar 2

There's been plenty of discussion regarding a sequel to James Cameron's Avatar; it's really more of a "when" not "if" discussion, because of course when you've got the biggest movie of all time on your hands, it's a foregone conclusion that you're going to churn out a few more.

Cameron recently spoke with MTV about where the sequel stands, and revealed his plans to shoot not just one but two Avatar sequels, potentially back-to-back. Here are a couple of choice samples of the interview:

"We're working on deals. So we don't start the movie until we get the deals worked out. I'm making notes, I'm not sitting idle. But really what I'm working on now is the novel."

MTV then asked whether or not Avatar 2 and Avatar 3 might shoot one after another, which is increasingly common in Hollywood of late. "Yeah, we're actually talking about that," Cameron said. "That's not a decision yet, but that's something that makes a lot of sense given the nature of these productions. Because we can bank all the capture and go back and do cameras over a period of time."

The Avatar novel doesn't have a set release date, but it should come out before the year is through, or early next.

If you're interested in hearing James Cameron chat more Avatar, head on over to MTV. In the meantime, if you're really anxious to return to Pandora, Avatar will get a re-release on August 27th.
